Marvel Movie Challenge
As I’m sure you are all aware, Avengers: Infinity War is coming. May 4th people. The date should already be on your calendar. If it isn’t, please go add it to your calendar now. We’ll wait.
Ok, done? Good. Let’s continue.
Our family is taking on the Marvel Movie Challenge to prepare for Infinity War. To participate in the Challenge, you must watch every Marvel movie in chronological order, not release date order. This is 18 movies – it’s not meant to be a marathon where you sit and watch them all right after another until you’re dead from brain overload. To do the Challenge, you pick a day of the week, and watch one movie every week until you’ve completed the list. For our family, Sunday evening works best. So we are starting the challenge this weekend. For those of you that need a list, here you go:
Captain America: The First Avenger (1/7)
Iron Man (1/14)
Iron Man 2 (1/21)
The Incredible Hulk (1/28)
The Avengers (2/11)
Iron Man 3 (2/18)
Thor: The Dark World (2/25)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (¾)
Guardians of the Galaxy (3/11)
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 (3/18)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (3/25)
Captain America: Civil War (4/8)
Doctor Strange (4/15)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (4/22)
Thor: Ragnarok (4/29) – available on video in February
And finally – Avengers: Infinity War!
The dates on the list are the dates to use in watching if you pick Sunday as your viewing day.
There is a problem with Black Panther – it probably won’t be available to stream by the time we’ll need it for a re-watch before Infinity War. We might just have to be satisfied with seeing it in February.
So, why we’re doing this, other than we are all just huge geeks and it will be fun? Marvel does an amazing job of connecting it’s movies. It’s something that some other franchises should take note of – even with different script writers and directors, the movies still connect and continue toward a common goal. We want to take time to appreciate and enjoy those interconnecting stories, leading up to this amazing movie. And watching them in chronological order, instead of release dates, might give us some new little connecting tidbits that we’ve missed in the past.
(A quick side note – you’ll notice that The Hulk is not on the list, only The Incredible Hulk. From our research, The Hulk isn’t considered canon within the Marvel universe.)
We our doing the Challenge here in Burke, and Misti is doing the Challenge up in Brooklyn. Let us know if you are going to join us!
